Insulinregulated
Insulinregulated refers to physiological processes and pathways that are controlled or modulated by the hormone insulin. In humans, insulin regulates glucose and energy metabolism across several tissues, most notably the liver, skeletal muscle, and adipose tissue. The insulin signaling cascade begins when insulin binds its receptor, a receptor tyrosine kinase. This triggers phosphorylation events that activate PI3K and AKT, leading to the translocation of the glucose transporter GLUT4 to the cell membrane in muscle and fat cells, increasing glucose uptake. In the liver, insulin promotes glycogen synthesis and inhibits glucose production by suppressing gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis. It also stimulates lipogenesis and protein synthesis while suppressing lipolysis and proteolysis in adipose tissue and muscle, contributing to energy storage after meals.
The net effect of insulinregulated processes is to lower blood glucose and promote anabolic storage of nutrients.
