Innbrudd

Innbrudd is the act of unlawfully entering a building or part of a building with the intention to commit a crime, most often theft. The focus is on the unlawful entry and the intent to commit wrongdoing, rather than on the completion of the crime itself. In many legal systems, the act of breaking in is an offense separate from the theft that may follow.

Legal treatment varies by jurisdiction, but innbrudd is typically classified as a property crime and may carry penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment. Factors such as the type of building (residential vs. commercial), whether force or weapons were used, the presence of occupants, and whether a theft occurred influence the severity of the sentence.
