InlineInspektion

InlineInspektion is the practice of performing inspection activities directly within a production line, process stream, or pipeline, so products or structures are evaluated in real time as they move through the system. It contrasts with offline inspection, which is done on samples after processing. InlineInspektion uses sensors, imaging, and nondestructive testing embedded in the workflow to detect defects or anomalies early.

Technologies include machine vision with cameras and illumination, 3D laser scanning or structured light, infrared thermography, ultrasonic and eddy current testing, radiography for some materials, and spectroscopy. Data are processed locally or in the cloud, often with AI to classify defects and trigger feedback to adjust machines, materials, or parameters. Inline inspection also supports traceability by linking defect data to batches, equipment, and operators.

Applications span electronics assembly, automotive and aerospace parts, food and beverage packaging, pharmaceuticals, and industrial pipelines. In pipelines, inline inspection tools (pigs) travel inside to measure wall thickness, corrosion, dents, and cracks.
