Inkubaatorite is a hypothetical phosphate mineral described in mineralogical literature as a rare iron- and aluminum-bearing phosphate-hydroxide. It is characterized by tabular to short-prismatic crystals and a subdued luster, forming under specific hydrothermal conditions where phosphate-bearing fluids interact with iron- and aluminum-rich rocks.

Etymology: The name inkubaatorite follows the pattern of mineral names with the suffix -ite and is derived from the word incubator, reflecting the experimental, incubating conditions proposed for its formation in laboratory simulations.

Composition and structure: The mineral is described as primarily phosphate with iron and aluminum in mixed valence, with hydroxide groups and water of crystallization. Substitutions by magnesium and calcium are reported in some theoretical models. The crystal system is proposed as monoclinic, with layered structural motifs that accommodate hydrogen bonding.

Physical properties: It is described as colorless to pale green or brown, with a vitreous to pearly luster on cleavage surfaces. Mohs hardness is estimated around 4.5–5, and the calculated specific gravity around 3.0–3.4. Optical properties are weakly pleochroic.

Occurrence and formation: In the hypothetical scenario, inkubaatorite forms in near-surface hydrothermal veins where phosphate-rich fluids percolate through iron- and aluminum-bearing host rocks. It is often associated with quartz, apatite, and magnetite.
