Inhibisyonu

Inhibisyonu is a term used to describe a process or effect that reduces, blocks, or limits activity within a system. It is used across disciplines such as biology, chemistry, medicine, psychology, and ecology to describe mechanisms that suppress function without destroying the system.

In biology and medicine, inhibition commonly refers to enzyme inhibition or receptor inhibition, where molecules bind to enzymes or receptors to slow or stop catalytic activity or signaling. Inhibitors can be reversible or irreversible, and competitive, noncompetitive, or uncompetitive. Pharmacological inhibitors are used therapeutically to regulate biochemical pathways; for example, some drugs inhibit enzymes to treat disease.

In chemistry and materials science, inhibitors reduce the rate of unwanted reactions, such as corrosion inhibitors protecting metals in aqueous environments and reaction inhibitors controlling polymerization.

In ecology and population biology, inhibitory effects can limit growth, such as density-dependent inhibition that slows reproduction at high population density, contributing to carrying capacity in logistic models.

Measurement uses metrics like IC50, Ki for biochemical inhibition, or percent inhibition in assays. The concept of inhibition emphasizes regulating, rather than eliminating, activity in complex systems.
