This internal air pressure is maintained by one or more blowers or fans, creating a positive pressure environment that supports the inflated membrane. The membrane itself is typically made from durable, airtight fabrics such as PVC-coated polyester or reinforced vinyl.

These structures are known for their rapid deployment, relatively low cost compared to traditional construction, and portability. They can be manufactured in a wide range of sizes and shapes, from small event tents to large sports arenas and industrial storage facilities. The air pressure is carefully controlled to ensure stability against wind loads and other external forces. In some designs, a system of cables or other tensioning elements may be incorporated for added stability, particularly in larger structures.

Ilmatäytteet are utilized in various applications. They are common for temporary events like festivals, exhibitions, and sporting competitions, providing shelter and climate control. They also serve as temporary warehouses, agricultural shelters, emergency response facilities, and even as housing in disaster relief situations.
