An AHU comprises several key components working in conjunction. These include fans for air circulation, heating and cooling coils for temperature control, filters for air purification, and dampers for regulating airflow. Some advanced units also incorporate humidifiers and dehumidifiers to manage moisture levels. The design of an AHU can vary significantly depending on the specific application and the required level of air treatment.

The operation of an AHU involves drawing in either fresh outdoor air or recirculated indoor air, or a mixture of both. This air is then filtered to remove particulate matter such as dust, pollen, and other contaminants. Subsequently, the air passes through heating or cooling coils to achieve the desired temperature. Humidity control can also be integrated into this process. Finally, the conditioned air is distributed throughout the building via a system of ducts.
