Iignee

Iignee is a fictional city-state and surrounding region used in fantasy fiction and worldbuilding. The name comes from the imagined Iineen language, often translated as water's edge, reflecting the region's close ties to river and sea.

Located along the lower Lora River and the southern coast of the continent of Aethra, Iinee spans about 2,400 square kilometers. The landscape includes river plains, marshes, and foothill forests, with the port city of Lira at the river mouth.

In the fictional chronology, settlements date to the early medieval period. Iinee achieved de facto independence in the 12th century and formed the Iineen Compact in 1524, a constitutional framework that governs relations among districts and the city-state's institutions.

A Council of Representatives, elected every four years, shares power with an appointed Governor who acts as head of state. Local district assemblies handle municipal affairs, while a civil code guides law and order.

The economy relies on river trade, citrus and rice agriculture, and small shipbuilding. Crafts such as ceramics and weaving are notable. Iineen culture emphasizes maritime music, water dances, and the Lanterns of Lira festival; Iineen is the principal language.

Key landmarks include the Port of Lira, the Library of Shards, and the Sacred Grotto at Riverbend. Iineen University serves as the leading center of higher learning.
