Idearanking

Idearanking is a structured process for evaluating and prioritizing ideas within a group or organization. It combines idea generation with a systematic assessment to produce a ranked list of concepts based on predefined criteria. The goal is to identify high-potential ideas efficiently and transparently to support decision-making in product development, strategic planning, or innovation projects.

Overview: The process typically starts with collecting ideas from brainstorming sessions, workshops, or submissions. Next, criteria are defined, such as impact, feasibility, desirability, novelty, alignment with strategy, and required resources. Each idea is scored against the criteria, either by participants, a facilitator, or through anonymous voting. Weighted scoring or a simple rank can be used to aggregate scores, producing a prioritized order that guides which ideas to prototype, pilot, or fund.

Limitations include subjectivity in criterion selection, potential bias in scoring, and the risk of undervaluing exploratory or long-term ideas. Effective idearanking relies on clear criteria, stakeholder buy-in, and transparent documentation.
