IRQ13
IRQ13 is a hardware interrupt request line commonly found on older Intel x86 processor-based systems. It is specifically associated with the Peripherals Interface Controller (PIC) chip, which managed various hardware interrupts. IRQ13 was typically assigned to the math coprocessor, also known as the floating-point unit (FPU). When the FPU encountered an error or needed attention, it would assert IRQ13 to signal the CPU.
The FPU's ability to handle complex mathematical operations was a significant performance enhancement for computers. However,
In modern computer architectures, the dedicated IRQ13 line is largely obsolete. The integration of the FPU
