IPkoodid, often referred to as IP codes or IP ratings, are a standardized system used to classify and identify the degree of protection provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures against intrusion from solid objects and liquids. The system is maintained by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) under the standard IEC 60529. The IP code consists of two digits. The first digit indicates the level of protection against solid foreign objects, including dust. The second digit indicates the level of protection against water.

The first digit ranges from 0 to 6. A '0' means no protection, while a '6' signifies complete protection against dust. The second digit ranges from 0 to 8, with '0' offering no protection against water and '8' indicating protection against continuous immersion in water under conditions specified by the manufacturer. Higher numbers within each digit category generally denote greater protection. For example, an IP67 rating means the enclosure is dust-tight (6) and protected against immersion in water up to 1 meter for a limited time (7).

IPkoodid are crucial for specifying the suitability of equipment for different environments.
