IIMIs

Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) were established in the 1960s with the primary objective of creating and developing high-quality management education in India. There are currently 20 IIMs across the country, along with several affiliated centers and management departments in various Indian Institute of Technology campuses.

The first IIM, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA), was set up in 1961 with an initial endowment from the Ford Foundation. It was followed by the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIMC) in 1961, and the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) in 1973. The IIMs were modeled after the Harvard Business School and other top business schools in the United States.

The IIMs offer a range of postgraduate and doctoral programs in management and related areas. The flagship one-year full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) program has been widely acclaimed and is considered one of the most competitive and sought-after programs in the country. The IIMs are also known for their strong research and faculty development programs, with a focus on creating and disseminating management knowledge relevant to India's economic and social development.

Several IIMs have been conferred with international accreditation by organizations such as the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE). IIMs have also been ranked among the top business schools globally by various rankings and indexes such as the Financial Times and the Times Higher Education.

The IIMs have produced many accomplished alumni who have made significant contributions in various fields, including business, government, non-profit, and academia.
