IFKta

IFKta is an international non-profit federation dedicated to advancing knowledge-sharing and technology collaboration across the academic, industrial, and public sectors. It coordinates research initiatives, standardization efforts, and capacity-building programs to reduce fragmentation in knowledge ecosystems.

Founded in 2012 by a coalition of universities, research institutes, and technology companies from Europe and North America, IFKta operates through a General Secretariat and a rotating presidency. Its mission centers on promoting open, ethical, and interoperable technologies.

Governance consists of a General Assembly of member organizations and national chapters, a Council, and a Secretariat led by a Secretary-General. Membership includes universities, research centers, tech firms, and government agencies. By 2024 it reports more than 350 member organizations across over 40 countries.

Core activities include an annual conference, open-access reports, collaborative research programs, and capacity-building workshops. It also publishes data and interoperability standards relevant to data governance, AI ethics, and research collaboration, developed through cross-sector working groups.

Impact is measured by the growth of cross-border research partnerships, increased access to knowledge infrastructures, and support for early-career researchers through grants and fellowships. IFKta maintains partnerships with regional networks and industry associations to disseminate best practices.
