IFIP

IFIP, the International Federation for Information Processing, is a multinational umbrella organization for national computer societies and related professional bodies. Its purpose is to advance information processing and computer science for the benefit of society by fostering international collaboration in research, standardization, education, and professional practice. IFIP supports the exchange of knowledge through conferences, working groups, and publications.

IFIP was established in 1960 as a federation of national information processing societies to promote development in computing and information processing. As a non-governmental organization with international scope, it coordinates activities across regions and disciplines and collaborates with various international partners to advance the field.

The federation is organized around technical committees and special interest groups that cover areas such as database systems, software engineering, cybersecurity, information systems, human–computer interaction, and artificial intelligence. It sponsors and co-sponsors conferences, workshops, and sometimes the World Computer Congress. It publishes research journals and conference proceedings and maintains a library or digital repositories of IFIP research reports and related materials. It also engages in education and professional development initiatives as well as policy discussions related to information technology.

IFIP comprises national member societies and individual members from around the world. It is governed by an elected council and a general assembly, with a president and other officers guiding its strategic direction and administration. The organization collaborates with other international bodies, including standardization groups and academic and industry partners, to advance standards, best practices, and knowledge dissemination in the field of information processing.
