IE11

Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is the eleventh and final major release of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser. It was released in October 2013 as part of Windows 8.1 and was later made available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1. IE11 remained the default Windows browser on various releases for several years before Microsoft shifted its focus to Edge.

IE11 introduced improved support for modern web standards such as HTML5, CSS3 and SVG, and included a redesigned JavaScript engine (Chakra) to boost performance. It offered a streamlined user interface, enhanced security features, in-page developer tools (F12), and better tab management and privacy controls, including SmartScreen Filter for phishing protection.

As a legacy-compatibility browser, IE11 provided compatibility modes and enterprise features to support older internal sites and applications. With the release of Microsoft Edge and its built-in IE mode, many organizations migrated away from the legacy browser while retaining compatibility for legacy sites.

Microsoft gradually reduced support for Internet Explorer in favor of Edge. While IE11 is no longer recommended for general use, Windows devices can still access legacy sites via IE mode in Edge, which allows modern browsing while maintaining compatibility with older web applications and standards.
