IDsare

IDsare is a framework for digital identity management that proposes a standardized, interoperable approach to issuing, managing, and validating identifiers for people, organizations, and digital assets. The goal is to enable trusted, privacy-respecting identities across multiple services while giving individuals control over their data.

At the core are decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials (VCs), elements common in modern identity systems. IDsare defines a lifecycle for identifiers, including creation, binding to verifiable attributes, revocation, portability, and auditability. It emphasizes minimal data disclosure through techniques such as selective disclosure and cryptographic proofs.

Governance and standards: IDsare is maintained by the IDsare Consortium, an open, multi-stakeholder group. The specification is published as open standards and is designed to interoperate with existing identity frameworks, including government and enterprise systems. Implementations are platform-agnostic and can run in local devices, in the cloud, or in edge environments.

In practice: Tools and wallets that are IDsare-compatible exist in open-source ecosystems. Startups, universities, and some public-sector pilots have tested IDsare-based workflows for identity verification, access control, and credentialing. The approach aims to reduce password reliance and data duplication, while enabling verifiable claims across services.

Criticism and challenges: Critics highlight privacy risks if governance is weak or if revocation data is widespread. Adoption requires interoperable tooling and clear legal frameworks for data protection. Skeptics caution against fragmentation or vendor lock-in if multiple competing standards emerge.
