Hálózatszeletelés

Hálózatszeletelés, a Hungarian term, translates to network slicing in English. It is a key concept in 5G mobile network architecture. Network slicing allows a single physical network infrastructure to be divided into multiple virtual, independent, and isolated end-to-end logical networks. Each virtual network, or slice, can be tailored to specific service requirements, such as latency, bandwidth, reliability, and security.

This capability enables operators to deliver diverse services with guaranteed quality of service (QoS) over a shared infrastructure. For instance, one slice might be optimized for high-bandwidth mobile broadband, another for ultra-low latency communication required by autonomous vehicles or industrial automation, and a third for massive machine-type communication needed for the Internet of Things (IoT).

The isolation between slices ensures that the performance of one slice does not negatively impact others, enhancing security and reliability. Network slicing is typically implemented using technologies like software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV). By abstracting network functions from dedicated hardware and controlling them through software, it becomes feasible to dynamically create, manage, and tear down these virtual network slices on demand. This flexibility is crucial for supporting a wide range of innovative applications and business models that will define the 5G era and beyond.
