Huokosaste

Huokosaste is a Finnish-language term that can be translated roughly as “porosity degree” or “porosity scale.” The word combines huoko- meaning porous or porosity and aste meaning degree or scale. In Finnish scientific and technical writing, huokosaste is used to refer to the porosity characteristics of a material, soil, or rock. However, there is no single internationally standardized definition for the term, and its precise meaning varies by context.

In practice, huokosaste is often used as a qualitative or context-dependent descriptor that may relate to the presence and arrangement of voids, the overall porosity percentage, or aspects of pore connectivity and pore-size distribution. Because porosity, permeability, and pore structure are related but distinct properties, huokosaste is typically discussed alongside more specific measurements rather than as a stand-alone quantitative metric.
