Hotzenplotz
The Hotzenplotz is a fictional character from a series of children's books written and illustrated by Otto Ruebenbauer, originally published in German between 1922 and 1930. The stories follow the adventures of a mischievous, green-skinned ogre known for his trickery, greed, and love of sweets, particularly gingerbread. The name "Hotzenplotz" is derived from the German phrase *Hottentottenkopf*, a derogatory term for a person with curly hair, which Ruebenbauer used humorously to describe the ogre’s appearance.
The tales center on the Hotzenplotz’s attempts to outwit a clever boy named Fritz, who often outsmarts
After Ruebenbauer’s death in 1943, the rights to the Hotzenplotz stories were acquired by the German publisher
