Horsepeople is an informal, broad term used to describe people whose work, hobbies, or identity revolve around horses. It encompasses riders and competitors (equestrians), trainers, breeders, caretakers, stable staff, farriers, veterinarians, researchers in equine science, and horse owners who actively participate in horse care and management. The term is gender-neutral and used in everyday speech, on social media, and in some organizational contexts to connect different roles within the equine world.

Historically, horsepeople have been integral to transportation, agriculture, and warfare. In many cultures, distinct professions emerged: cavalry personnel, ranch hands, stud farm staff, and racecourse workers. Today, professional and amateur horsepeople compete in disciplines such as show jumping, dressage, eventing, western riding, endurance, and driving, while others work in veterinary clinics, rehabilitation centers, breeding operations, or stable management. National and international bodies regulate competition and safety; major examples include the Fédération Equestre Internationale for international competition, and national federations that oversee licensing and welfare standards.

Ethical riding and training practices emphasize humane handling, appropriate conditioning, nutrition, veterinary care, and regular farriery. Welfare standards address turnout, housing, and work-rest balance, while injury prevention and rider safety are ongoing concerns in sport and work settings. Organizations advocate for animal welfare, professional conduct, and data-driven improvements in equine science.

In communities and online, horsepeople share knowledge on training methods, care, lineage, and competition results. The term serves as a broad descriptor linking diverse roles within the equine ecosystem.
