Holmestrand

Holmestrand is a municipality and town located in Vestfold county, Norway. It sits on the western shore of the Oslofjord, approximately 60 kilometers south of Oslo. The municipality covers an area of 352 square kilometers and has a population of around 27,000 residents. The town of Holmestrand is the administrative center of the municipality.

Historically, Holmestrand developed as a small trading post and port town. Its strategic location facilitated maritime trade and fishing. The town's name, meaning "holm island," likely refers to small islands or skerries offshore.
