Hollantilaiset

Hollantilaiset is the Finnish term for the Dutch people, the inhabitants of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and those who identify with Dutch nationality. The Netherlands is a country in Western Europe, bordered by Belgium to the south, Germany to the east, and the North Sea to the north and west. Much of the land lies below sea level, protected by dikes, pumping stations and a sophisticated water-management system that creates the characteristic polder landscapes.

The official language is Dutch (Nederlands). Frisian is also recognized as a regional language in the province of Friesland, and many Dutch citizens are fluent in English and other languages. The population is around 17.5 million, with major urban areas in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.

Dutch culture is known for its art, design, architecture and contributions to science and philosophy. The country has a long history of trade and seafaring, culminating in the Dutch Golden Age of the 17th century. The Netherlands is also known for its cycling culture, windmills, tulips and a tradition of social liberalism and consensus politics. In modern times, the Dutch economy is highly developed and export-oriented, with strong services and high-tech sectors; agriculture, especially greenhouse horticulture and flower production, is a notable strength.

Nationals identify as Dutch; the Netherlands is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary system and is a member of the European Union, NATO and other international organizations.
