Hjulprofiler

Hjulprofiler refer to the specific shape and dimensions of a wheel's cross-section. This profile is critical for a wheel's performance and how it interacts with the road or track. Different types of wheels, such as those for bicycles, cars, trains, or industrial machinery, have vastly different profiles dictated by their intended use.

For bicycles, wheel profiles are often described by their rim depth and width. Deeper rims can offer aerodynamic advantages, reducing drag, while wider rims provide better support for wider tires, increasing comfort and grip. Road bikes often feature deeper, narrower rims, while mountain bikes use wider, shallower rims for stability and shock absorption.

In automotive applications, wheel profiles, often referred to as tire profiles or aspect ratios, describe the sidewall height in relation to the tire's width. A lower aspect ratio results in a shorter sidewall, which can improve handling and steering response due to reduced tire flex. Conversely, a higher aspect ratio provides a taller sidewall, offering a softer ride and better protection against road imperfections.

For rail vehicles, wheel profiles are designed to keep the train on the tracks and guide it through curves. They typically feature a conical shape on the tread and a flange, a raised rim on the inner side of the wheel. The interaction between the wheel profile and the rail profile is crucial for safe and efficient operation, influencing rolling resistance and wear.
