Hindon

Hindon commonly refers to a town in the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India. It lies in the western part of the state within the National Capital Region, close to Delhi. The area is named after the Hindon River, a tributary of the Yamuna, which flows through the region and has historically supported agriculture in the valley.

The Hindon area is known for the Hindon Air Force Station, a major base of the Indian Air Force located near the town. It has long served defense and training roles and remains a key installation in the regional air network. In the late 2010s, a civil enclave was developed at Hindon to accommodate limited civilian air traffic, resulting in Hindon Airport operating domestic flights and serving as a secondary air link for the Delhi region. Civil operations are designed to complement Delhi’s airport capacity and expand regional connectivity.

The town and surrounding district have undergone rapid urbanization due to proximity to Delhi. The local economy is mixed, with services, logistics, small-scale manufacturing, and wholesale trade contributing to growth. Hindon is connected by road to the Delhi–Ghaziabad corridor and is integrated into the broader rail and road networks of the National Capital Region.
