Hillockers

A hillocker is a type of small, artificial mound or raised area of earth, often constructed for specific purposes. These are distinct from natural hills or larger mounds due to their deliberate creation and generally smaller scale. Hillockers can be found in various settings, including gardens, parks, and agricultural landscapes.

In gardens and landscaping, hillockers are frequently used to create visual interest, improve drainage, or provide a suitable environment for certain types of plants. They can be planted with rocks, shrubs, or flowers to create miniature terraced gardens or rockeries. The raised elevation of a hillocker can offer better sunlight exposure and air circulation for plants that prefer well-drained soil.

In agriculture, the concept of small raised earth structures is also employed. For example, in some traditional farming methods, small mounds are created to plant crops, facilitating drainage and warming the soil in cooler climates. These are sometimes referred to as "hillocks" and serve a similar functional purpose to garden hillockers, albeit on a larger scale and with a primary focus on food production. The term "hillocker" itself is less common than "hillock" but refers to the constructed nature of the feature.
