A hillock is a small hill or mound, a natural elevation that rises above the surrounding terrain. Hillocks can occur in a wide range of landscapes, from plains to uplands, and are frequently covered with grass or low vegetation.

A knoll is typically even smaller or more rounded, while a hillock emphasizes its diminutive size. On maps and in geographic descriptions, hillocks are depicted through contour lines and relief shading to convey elevation.

Ecology and human use: hillocks influence local microhabitats by altering drainage, soil depth, and moisture, supporting distinct plant communities and providing shelter for small animals. They are common features in rural and agricultural areas and can contribute to landscape character.
