Hiilipaperi

Hiilipaperi, a Finnish term often translated as carbon paper, is a sheet of paper coated on one side with a colored wax or ink mixture. It is used for making copies of documents. When placed between an original sheet and a blank sheet, and pressure is applied to the original, the coating transfers to the blank sheet, creating a duplicate. Historically, hiilipaperi was a common tool in offices and for personal use before the widespread adoption of photocopiers and digital document creation. The quality of the copy and the number of legible duplicates that could be made depended on the quality of the hiilipaperi and the pressure applied. Different colors of hiilipaperi were available, with black being the most common for general document copying. Other colors like blue and red were also used for specific purposes. While largely superseded by modern technology, its historical significance in facilitating document duplication is notable.
