Higromeetrids

Higromeetrids are a family of true bugs belonging to the order Hemiptera. They are commonly known as flower bugs or pirate bugs. This diverse group of insects is found worldwide, inhabiting a wide range of environments including gardens, meadows, and forests. Higromeetrids are characterized by their small to medium size, typically ranging from 2 to 5 millimeters in length, and their often brightly colored or patterned bodies. A distinctive feature is their piercing-sucking mouthparts, which they use to feed on other small insects.

These predatory insects play a significant role in biological pest control. Their diet primarily consists of soft-bodied insects such as aphids, thrips, mites, and insect eggs. Adult higromeetrids and their immature nymphal stages are both predatory, actively hunting their prey.
