Hesban
Hesban, also known as Tell Hesban, is an archaeological tell in central Jordan. It is widely identified with the biblical city of Heshbon, the Moabite capital mentioned in several biblical texts, though the identification remains a matter of scholarly discussion. The site sits on elevated ground in the Jordanian plateau and has commanding views of the surrounding landscape, reflecting its historical role as a frontier settlement in the Moabite and Transjordanian border lands.
The mound covers a long span of occupation, with remains ranging from the Early Bronze Age through
Archaeological work at Hesban began in the mid-20th century and involved international teams and Jordanian scholars.
Today, Hesban is recognized as a significant archaeological site for understanding biblical geography and Jordanian heritage.
