Heitmele is a fictional municipality located in the northern highlands of Nordmark, a country created for world-building and speculative fiction. It sits in a broad valley surrounded by pine forests and basalt ridges, and the municipality includes Heitmele proper plus several surrounding hamlets. In the setting’s chronology, its population is about 2,500. Local government operates under a mayor-council system.

The toponym Heitmele is described in in-universe linguistics as a compound derived from Old Norse–influenced elements, commonly interpreted as meaning “hot mill” or “heated mill,” in reference to historical industry in the area. The suffix -mele appears in neighboring settlements, indicating a shared linguistic heritage within the region.

History describes Heitmele as originating in the 12th century as a milling and mining site. A natural geothermal spring provided heat and power, fostering early industry. The medieval fortress Heitmørn guarded the valley during regional conflicts. Over time the town expanded to include timber and textile crafts, and in recent eras it integrated geothermal energy production into its infrastructure and economy.

Geography and economy highlight a cool, damp valley climate with long winters and short summers. Today’s economy blends geothermal heating, small-forest logging, and craft workshops. Cultural life centers on the annual Heitmele Festival, traditional music, and woodwork markets.
