Hedelmäkone

Hedelmäkone, also known as a fruit machine or fruit salad maker, is a small, portable kitchen appliance designed to quickly blend and puree fruits into a smooth, ready-to-drink beverage. These devices gained popularity in the late 20th century as a convenient way to prepare fresh fruit juice or smoothies without the need for a traditional blender or juicer. The name "hedelmäkone" originates from Finnish, where "hedelmä" means fruit and "kone" means machine.

Hedelmäkones typically feature a compact, cylindrical design with a small hopper at the top for adding fruit pieces. Inside, a rotating blade or grinding mechanism processes the fruit into a liquid or semi-liquid state. Some models include a built-in strainer to remove pulp, while others produce a thicker, pulpier texture. Many early versions were battery-operated, making them easy to use on the go, though modern versions often run on electricity or rechargeable batteries.

The appliance became particularly popular in Finland and other Nordic countries during the 1970s and 1980s, often marketed as a health-conscious alternative to sugary soft drinks. It was also promoted as a time-saving tool for busy households.
