Haunteisuudelle

Haunteisuudelle is a lesser-known Japanese folktale that explores themes of morality and honor. It is a variant of the sharper and more well-known tale of "Urashima Tarō," which involves a man named Urashima who visits his true love in an underwater kingdom.

The story of Haunteisuudelle takes a darker turn from the original Urashima Tarō tale. Instead, Urashima visits his true love only to find that she has died while he was away. His love, whom he later finds out is the legendary sea serpent Ryūjin in disguise, attempts to turn herself into a white shark in order to reunite with Urashima in the afterlife.

Urashima, heartbroken by his love's passing, tries to revive her. In response, his love vows never to forget Urashima, even when he's gone and when she has died. In one version of the tale, in what appears to be a futile attempt to show his dedication, Urashima meets an untimely death because of his failed attempt to revive his deceased love.

It appears that Haunteisuudelle's dialogue leaves the moral muddled with little to no code to live by. Haunteisuudelle is characterized by brutal depictions of death and spiritual harsh realities that provide crystal clear portrayals of selfless people suffering for those they care about most.
