Handrückens
Handrückens is a term with a specific meaning in certain contexts, particularly within anatomical and medical terminology. It refers to the dorsal side of the hand. The dorsal aspect of any body part is generally understood as the surface that faces away from the body's anterior or ventral side. In the case of the hand, the handrücken is the back of the hand, opposite the palm. This area features the metacarpal bones, tendons that extend the fingers, the extensor muscles of the forearm, and various blood vessels and nerves. The skin on the handrücken is thinner and has less subcutaneous fat compared to the palm, making underlying structures more visible. This region is prone to certain types of injuries, such as abrasions, lacerations, and fractures, due to its exposed nature. Medical professionals commonly use the term handrücken when describing the location of pain, injuries, or surgical procedures related to the back of the hand.
