Halfclad

Half-clad refers to a type of construction system used in building design, particularly in cold climates. In half-clad, the exterior wall of a building is divided into two parts, typically with a layer of solid exterior cladding on the outside and a layer of insulating material on the inside.

The exterior cladding, usually a solid material such as brick, concrete, or stucco, provides the weather-tight shell of the building. This exterior layer protects the interior from the elements and serves as the primary barrier against wind, rain, and extreme temperatures.

The interior layer, often a continuous layer of insulation, provides a buffer between the cold exterior and the conditioned interior space. This insulating material can be in the form of foam boards, blankets, or other types of insulation materials. The interior insulation serves to reduce heat loss and minimize heat gain, improving the overall energy efficiency of the building.

The half-clad system has been used in building design for centuries, particularly in regions with cold and snowy winters.
