Haleth

Haleth is a legendary figure in J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium, the eponym and leader of the Haladin, one of the three Houses of the Edain in the First Age. The Haladin, named for Haleth, dwelt in the forested region of Brethil in Beleriand and were known for their hardy, communal culture and their steadfast resistance to Morgoth’s forces.

In The Silmarillion, Haleth is depicted as a capable and resolute ruler who guided her people through periods of hardship amid the wars against Morgoth. Under her leadership the Haladin maintained their independence and fought alongside Elven hosts when possible, though their fortunes were closely tied to the broader struggles of the era. The Haladin endured substantial losses during the long conflict with Morgoth, and their line gradually diminished as the First Age progressed and the political landscape of Beleriand shifted.

Haleth’s memory endured as the defining identity of her people. The name of Haleth continued to symbolize the endurance and unity of the Haladin, whose legacy is recorded among the histories of the Edain in Tolkien’s writings.
