Degenerative diseases involve the breakdown of body tissues over time. This category includes conditions like Alzheimer's disease, osteoarthritis, and macular degeneration. Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body's own healthy cells and tissues. Conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and multiple sclerosis fall into this category. Mental health disorders, or psychiatric disorders, affect a person's thinking, feeling, or behavior. These can include depression, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia.

This classification system helps medical professionals understand the underlying causes and mechanisms of illness, guiding the selection of appropriate diagnostic tools and therapeutic interventions. It also facilitates epidemiological research and the development of public health strategies.
