Hahnventile

Hahnventile, often translated as stopcocks or plug valves, are a type of valve used to control the flow of fluid or gas in a pipeline. The defining characteristic of a Hahnventil is its closure element, which typically consists of a tapered or cylindrical plug that fits snugly into a matching body. Rotation of this plug by a handle or lever opens or closes the passage through the valve, thereby regulating or shutting off the flow.

These valves are known for their simple design and robust construction, making them suitable for a wide range of applications, including water supply, chemical processing, and industrial gas systems. The plug can be a solid piece or have a hole drilled through it, which is aligned with the flow path when the valve is open and turned perpendicular to the flow path when closed. This straightforward mechanism allows for quick operation and a reliable seal.

Hahnventile are generally effective for on-off service, providing a positive shut-off. While some designs can offer throttling capabilities, their primary function is to rapidly stop or permit flow. They are often manufactured from materials like brass, stainless steel, or plastic, depending on the specific requirements of the application, such as resistance to corrosion or high temperatures. Maintenance is typically minimal due to their few moving parts.
