Haastattelun
Haastattelun is a genus of extinct flightless birds that lived in New Zealand during the Pleistocene epoch. The genus contains two known species, Haastattelun anas and Haastattelun columbae. These birds are thought to have evolved from a common ancestor with modern ducks and geese, but they became flightless and adapted to a terrestrial lifestyle. Haastattelun birds were large, with an estimated weight of up to 15 kg (33 lbs) for males and 10 kg (22 lbs) for females. They had strong legs and broad feet, adapted for walking and swimming. Their diet likely consisted of plants, seeds, and invertebrates.
The fossil record of Haastattelun is primarily from the South Island of New Zealand, where they appear
