It is not a formal standard, but a descriptive label used in industry discussions, guides, and quality checks to indicate compatibility with HDR displays and mastering practices.

In practice, HDRgerechter content is produced with attention to a wider luminance range, extended color gamut, and higher bit depth, aiming to preserve detail in both shadows and highlights. It typically involves proper color grading, tone mapping, and the use of HDR metadata when required by the delivery format. The term is commonly applied to material mastered for HDR formats such as HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, or HLG, as well as to playback setups that can render a broad dynamic range while maintaining color accuracy.
