Häältehnoloogias, commonly referred to as voice technology, encompasses the systems and processes that enable computers to understand, interpret, and generate human speech. This field is a convergence of several disciplines, including linguistics, computer science, and electrical engineering. At its core, voice technology aims to facilitate seamless human-computer interaction through spoken language.

The primary components of voice technology include speech recognition and speech synthesis. Speech recognition, also known as automatic speech recognition (ASR), converts spoken words into text. This process involves analyzing the acoustic properties of speech, segmenting it into phonemes, and then using language models to determine the most probable word sequence. Speech synthesis, conversely, generates human-like speech from text. This is achieved through various techniques, such as concatenative synthesis, which stitches together pre-recorded speech units, or parametric synthesis, which creates speech based on acoustic parameters.

Applications of voice technology are widespread and continue to expand. Virtual assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant rely heavily on ASR and speech synthesis for their functionality. Voice-controlled interfaces are prevalent in automobiles, smart home devices, and accessibility tools for individuals with disabilities. Furthermore, voice technology plays a role in call centers for automated customer service, transcription services, and even in fields like healthcare for dictation and clinical documentation. The continuous advancement in machine learning and artificial intelligence is driving significant improvements in the accuracy, naturalness, and range of capabilities of voice technology.
