Gänglås

Gänglås, also known as thread locking compound or threadlocker, is a viscous liquid or semi-liquid chemical substance designed to prevent fasteners from loosening due to vibration and shock. It is typically applied to the threads of screws, bolts, nuts, and studs before assembly. Once applied, the threadlocker cures in the absence of air, forming a strong bond that resists loosening.

The primary function of gänglås is to provide resistance to mechanical loosening. Vibrations, thermal expansion and contraction, and impact can all cause standard fasteners to gradually unscrew over time, potentially leading to equipment failure. Gänglås fills the small gaps between the mating threads, effectively creating a solid, unified unit that resists these forces.

Gänglås products are available in various strengths, ranging from low-strength formulations that allow for easy disassembly with standard tools to high-strength versions that require heat or significant force to break apart. They also come in different viscosities, impacting their application and coverage on the threads. Some gänglås formulations offer additional benefits, such as sealing against corrosion and leakage. The curing process is typically anaerobic, meaning it requires the absence of oxygen to initiate and complete. This allows for parts to be adjusted or repositioned before the gänglås fully cures. Common applications include automotive assembly, industrial machinery, electronics, and aerospace components where reliability is critical.
