Gáztípus refers to the classification of gases based on their physical and chemical properties. This categorization helps in understanding their behavior, handling, and applications. Common classifications include inert gases, flammable gases, toxic gases, and oxidizing gases. Inert gases, such as helium and argon, are unreactive and are often used in industrial processes or as protective atmospheres. Flammable gases, like methane and hydrogen, readily combust and require careful storage and handling due to their explosive potential. Toxic gases, including carbon monoxide and chlorine, pose health risks and necessitate specialized ventilation and safety measures. Oxidizing gases, such as oxygen and fluorine, support combustion and can intensify fires.

Further classifications can be based on the state of matter, with gases being distinct from liquids and solids. Gases have no fixed shape or volume and expand to fill their container. Their properties are described by variables such as pressure, volume, temperature, and the amount of gas. The ideal gas law provides a simplified model for understanding the relationships between these variables for many common gases under typical conditions. Real gases, however, deviate from ideal behavior, especially at high pressures and low temperatures, due to intermolecular forces and the finite volume of gas molecules.
