Guizots

Guizots were a group of people associated with the political theories and actions of François Guizot, a prominent French historian and statesman of the 19th century. Guizot himself was a leading figure in the July Monarchy, serving as a minister and exerting considerable influence on French politics and intellectual life. His followers, often referred to as Guizots, generally espoused liberal conservatism. They supported a constitutional monarchy and a gradual approach to political reform, emphasizing order and stability.

The Guizots were characterized by their belief in the importance of property rights and their cautious stance on extending suffrage. They were often seen as representing the interests of the educated and propertied classes, and were critical of more radical democratic or socialist movements. In intellectual terms, Guizot's historical work, which focused on the development of liberty and representative institutions in France and England, heavily influenced his adherents.
