Guayaquils

Guayaquils are residents of Guayaquil, Ecuador, the country's largest city and principal port on the Guayas River near the Pacific Ocean. The term "Guayaquils" is an anglicized demonym that appears occasionally in English-language sources, though locally people identify as guayaquileños or guayaquileñas.

Located in the coastal lowlands of southwestern Ecuador, Guayaquil is the economic engine of the country, with a busy river port and diversified sectors including trade, manufacturing, and services. The Port of Guayaquil handles a substantial share of Ecuador's international commerce, with exports such as bananas, seafood, cacao, and cut flowers.

Guayaquileños have a rich urban culture expressed in music, food, and public events. Notable landmarks include the Malecón 2000 waterfront and the historic park areas; cuisine features encebollado, arroz con menestra y carne asada, and other coastal dishes. The city hosts markets, theatres, and sports clubs that shape daily life.

Since colonial times Guayaquil has been a key port and economic hub. Its population is diverse, including Mestizos, Afro-Ecuadorians, Montubios, and people of various immigrant backgrounds, contributing to a multicultural urban fabric.
