Grenzfeststellungsverfahren is a civil-law procedure in Germany and some other German-speaking jurisdictions for determining the exact location and course of a boundary between neighboring properties. The procedure is typically invoked when the position of a boundary is unclear due to missing or conflicting boundary markers, old boundary descriptions in documents, changes in the landscape, or disputes between adjacent owners. The objective is to obtain a binding determination of where the border runs, which can then be entered in the land register and serve as the authoritative reference for future use and construction.

Who can initiate it varies by jurisdiction, but in general the owners of adjacent parcels or other stakeholders with a legitimate boundary interest may file a claim. The court with jurisdiction (often a local or regional court) will evaluate the case and may appoint a surveyor or other expert to determine the boundary. The proceedings rely on documentary evidence, such as old deeds, maps, and survey data, as well as expert testimony and site inspections. The court may also request or approve a boundary plan that precisely delineates the determined border.

The result is typically a Grenzfeststellungsurteil (boundary determination decision) accompanied by a boundary plan. This decision is binding on the parties and is normally recorded in the Grundbuch (land register) to ensure enforceability. The procedure can reduce future conflicts by clarifying rights and obligations related to the border, including access, use of adjacent land, and potential encroachments. Alternatives include private settlements or negotiated boundary agreements outside court, often with the help of surveyors.
