The term combines greens (environmental sustainability) with sensitive, implying a responsiveness to ecological signals such as resource availability, climate conditions, and biodiversity impacts.

Usage and scope: The phrase appears in environmental planning, sustainable design, and green marketing. It is not a formally defined standard in peer-reviewed literature, but is used to convey that a given approach prioritizes ecological feedback loops, lifecycle impact, and resilience.

Examples: Greensensitive architecture may integrate passive cooling, natural materials, and local supply chains. Greensensitive consumer products may include lifecycle-based design, repairability, and modular components. Greensensitive software or data platforms may optimize energy use in response to grid demand or supply variability.

Criticism and limitations: Because there is no universal definition, the term can be vague and subject to greenwashing. Critics argue for clear metrics and verification, such as lifecycle assessments, energy-performance criteria, or biodiversity impact statements to substantiate claims of sensitivity to ecological factors.
