Greenkeepers

Greenkeepers are groundskeepers who are responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of golf courses. Their primary role is to ensure that the golf course is in optimal condition for play, which involves a wide range of tasks related to turfgrass management, pest control, and course aesthetics.

The daily duties of a greenkeeper typically include mowing greens, fairways, and roughs to specific heights, often using specialized mowers. They also focus on watering and irrigation systems to ensure adequate moisture for the turf, especially during dry periods. Aeration, scarifying, and top-dressing are common practices used to improve soil structure, reduce thatch, and promote healthy grass growth.

Beyond turf care, greenkeepers manage hazards and hazards on the course. This can involve maintaining bunkers by raking sand, trimming edges, and ensuring proper drainage. They also address pest and disease issues, applying treatments as needed while considering environmental impact and regulations. Tree and shrub maintenance, as well as general course tidiness, such as litter removal and divot repair, are also part of their responsibilities.

Greenkeepers often work in teams under the supervision of a head greenkeeper or course superintendent. They utilize a variety of equipment, from mowers and tractors to specialized tools for aeration and irrigation. The work can be physically demanding and often requires early mornings, especially during peak golfing seasons, to prepare the course before players arrive.
