Granuláltfújásos, often translated as granular blasting or shot blasting, is a surface treatment process that utilizes a high-velocity stream of abrasive media to clean, strengthen, or prepare a surface. The abrasive media, typically in the form of small granules or shot, is propelled by compressed air or a centrifugal wheel onto the workpiece. The impact of these particles creates a controlled deformation and removal of surface layers.

This process is widely employed in various industries. In metal fabrication, it is used to remove rust, scale, old paint, and other contaminants from metal surfaces, creating a clean profile ready for painting, coating, or further processing. It can also induce compressive residual stresses in the surface of metals, which significantly improves fatigue life and resistance to stress corrosion cracking. This is particularly important for components subjected to high mechanical loads.

Granuláltfújásos can also be used on concrete and stone surfaces to remove laitance, cure lines, and prepare them for coatings or overlays. The size, shape, and hardness of the abrasive media are carefully selected based on the material being treated and the desired outcome. Common abrasive media include steel shot, steel grit, aluminum oxide, and glass beads. The intensity of the blast, the distance from the nozzle to the surface, and the duration of the blasting are all controlled parameters to achieve optimal results. The process can be carried out manually or automated, depending on the scale and complexity of the application.
