Glättungsparameters are variables used in signal processing and data analysis to control the degree of smoothing applied to a dataset. Smoothing is a technique employed to reduce noise or fluctuations in data, revealing underlying trends or patterns more clearly. The specific parameters vary depending on the smoothing algorithm being used.

In the context of moving averages, a common smoothing method, the primary parameter is the window size or length. This parameter determines how many data points are averaged together to produce each smoothed value. A larger window size results in more aggressive smoothing, effectively removing more noise but also potentially blurring sharp features or rapid changes in the data. Conversely, a smaller window size provides less smoothing, preserving more of the original signal's detail but also retaining more noise.

For exponential smoothing methods, such as simple exponential smoothing or Holt-Winters, the smoothing parameters are typically denoted by alpha ($\alpha$), beta ($\beta$), and gamma ($\gamma$). Alpha controls the weighting of the most recent observation, beta influences the trend component, and gamma affects the seasonal component. Smaller values of these parameters give more weight to past observations, leading to smoother results, while larger values emphasize recent data, making the smoothed output more responsive to changes.

The selection of appropriate smoothing parameters is crucial and often involves a trade-off between noise reduction and signal fidelity. The optimal parameters depend on the characteristics of the data, the nature of the noise, and the specific goals of the analysis. Cross-validation or other objective evaluation methods are frequently used to determine the best parameter settings.
