Glilleridae

Glilleridae, a family of weevils within the suborder Polyphaga, is of uncertain status. They are known to be part of the superfamily Driloidea, which contains some of the most ancient and primitive of weevils. The classification of Glilleridae is debated due to incomplete understanding of the group and its relationships to other weevil families.

Little is known about the life cycle or behavior of Glilleridae. However, observations suggest that adult individuals are likely to be similar to other members of the family Drilidae, with elliptical bodies and folded elytra. The family's anatomical characteristics, such as their mandibles and antennal morphology, should be compared in detail to better understand their possible position within the phylogenetic framework.

The type genus of the family is Glillera, a group of small to medium-sized weevils. Information on their habitat and geographic distribution is limited, but their presence is generally indicated by local, dispersed collections. These collections range across North Africa and Europe, with no indication of a large-scale or global presence. Ecological data are mostly absent due to the rare occurrence of Glilleridae specimens.

Further study and comparison of these ancient weevils can reveal additional information on their evolution, habits, and environmental affinities. Enhanced knowledge can also help resolve the once-disputed classification and potential links between Glilleridae and other related weevil species.
